SRH Glossary

“SRH Shabdakosh-A Sexual and Reproductive Health Glossary in English and Nepali” is a compilation of works related to sexual and reproductive health issues published by Shtrii Shakti under the auspices of UNPFA Nepal. The book has been published to ensure a common understanding and use of the vocabulary on SRH issues among stakeholders. Y-PEER Nepal was involved as one of the collaborating organization providing useful comments and suggestions in the course of compiling the list of words.

Capacity Building Training for Youth organizations

As a part of capacity building training, AYON and Y-PEER jointly organized national level training program for AYON and Y-PEER members from all across the nation. The training was taught by Organization Development Center (ODC) in a Package itself and provided all the required technical support. The programme aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills on project management, proposal writing and report writing. The first training on Proposal and Report writing was held at Kakani from participants 28th Nov- 2nd Dec. 2011. There were a total of 30 participants participating in the training. The 2nd training was also held on proposal and report writing at Chitwan from 12th Dec.-16th Dec. 2011 where 38 youth organization’s representatives participated. The final training on Project Cycle Management was held at Nagarkot from 18 Dec. - 22 Dec. 2011. 35 participants had participated in this program. The training was a great platform for representatives of both Y-PEER and AYON to share each other’s experiences and learn from each other. There were many participants who were from the same district and region so this training was an opportunity to know more people and their ideas and experiences.

Production of Y-PEER Nepal Short Video

Y-PEER Nepal produced a short movie, “No Threat Found” on Youth, Sexuality and HIV & AIDS awareness. The main theme of movie revolves around the sexual psychology of a youth and his desires and fantasies. The ultimate message of the video is to give HIV & AIDS awareness. The short video was acted and directed by the members of Y-PEER itself. The video was screened on December 1st 2011 on the occasion of World AIDS Day. It also got nominated in the Top Ten videos on HIV & AIDS awareness organized by Rotaract Club. The video will be extensively distributed and screened amongst young people in the future and it will also be a good resource for training of Y-PEER. This movie was directed by Sagar Budhathoki, National focal point incharge/ coordinator.

Talk to me: Let’s Talk about Sex

Y-PEER Nepal celebrated 16 days of Activism by organizing an event “Let’s Talk about Sex” in collaboration with Story Cycle on 4th December 2011 at Adarsha Kanya School, Patan. 
The main objective of this event was to provide a platform for youths to freely express their belief, values and attitudes related to sex and sexuality. The event was designed with discussion sessions with speakers and video show with directors. The main speaker for the day was Dr. Rajendra Bhadra with the theme “Art, Culture, Sculpture and Sex” where the discussion was done viewing sex and sexuality from the Eastern Philosophy and from the perspective of Nepali culture and religion. Dr. Bhadra briefly discussed on the importance of sex and sexuality and its  need among youths especially in perspective from Nepali culture. Participants were able to freely express their values and attitudes regarding the topic due to to the easy facilitation of Dr. Bhadra. The next theme was Sexual minorities and HIV related stigma and discrimination. Ms.Bhoomika Shrestha from Parichaya Samaj and Ms. Pooja Ghale were speakers for this session. Ms. Bhoomika briefly discussed on the status of sexual minorities group in Nepal and the problems faced by them regarding their rights and identification. Ms. Ghale shared a case study of a women regarding HIV related stigma and discrimination. Apart from the discussions, 3 short videos with theme such as HIV awareness, stigma and discrimination, Sex and Sexuality were also screened in the program. The event was followed by refreshment and informal discussions.

On 3rd December 2010, Y-PEER Nepal was officially launched. And today is our first anniversary. We would like to thank all our well wishers and supporters who had helped us a lot in our growth.We are hopeful for the continuation of the support and best wishes in future days as well.

World AIDS Day 2011 Celebration


WAD 2011 was extensively celebrated by Y-PEER Nepal throughout the country with the theme, “Getting to Zero”. It was celebrated in every development region of Nepal including the capital city. In Kathmandu, a stall was kept at Bhaktapur Durbar Square with different IEC materials kept in it. Earlier in the morning a rally went through the local community. Y-PEER Nepal in collaboration with other local organizations had organized the program. A short video on HIV & AIDS awareness made by Y-PEER Nepal was also screened at UWTC, Tripureshowr and also at Times Square Mall, Durbarmarg. The regional network of Y-PEER Nepal successfully organized various programs all over Nepal to celebrate the WAD 2011. Different street dramas were organized in Pokhara, Kailali, Nepalgunj which was hugely participated by huge number of young people. A rally along with Talk program and video screening was held at Illam municipality. A similar talk program and workshop on the role of youth in minimizing HIV & AIDS was also held at Pokhara. Altogether, WAD 2011 was successfully celebrated by all the regional network of Y-PEER Nepal including the capital city, Kathmandu.
